gone

Goodbye kisses and last minute hugs. A kind word or glance tossed over our shoulder. Moments, fleeting, swept into the busyness of early morning school day routines. These tiny gestures will be lost, gone without warning, for families lost to tragedy early this Friday morning. Let us all hold these kindnesses in our own lives closely, remembering that for countless reasons, some entirely unfathomable, these moments one day are the ones we reach for first in need of comfort. Everyday observances of love.
Two days ago, I watched my daughter walk to school and instead of turning away after a few seconds, like I usually do, I watched her until she was out of sight. I don’t know how I could go on without my children. Your post is beautiful.
Today’s news found me just as I was picking up both children from school early for appointments. The reality that I was gifted extra hours of my day with my children while other parents were saying goodbye was not lost to me, neither was your gesture of silence and consciousness for this tragedy.
