sand script

It is the first day of our summer vacation and I find myself wanting to sketch our days in sand so that the tide might hold our summer beneath a veil of possibility. This is the first year I have not mapped the months with specific promises, inviting uncertainty to guide our adventures. As the days stretch longer in the company of sunshine I am mindful that my children’s years feel shorter. They are growing too quickly and I am suddenly hesitant to look to into a future outlined in expectations, rather I want to wake each day to a new beginning with a heart weighted firmly in the present and plans written in sand script.
I find that as I get older, time seems to pass quickly. I cannot even imagine how fast time rolls by with children. That is the mark of the good life. š
Cheers,

And still, often times, I feel as if I am little more than a child myself. Time is a mysterious thief, giving and taking when we least expect.

I am right there with you. Hyper-sensitive to the passing of time lately, I’m choosing an uncharted summer with my kids, letting the days take us where they will. Now if I could only get my daughter, the planner, on board.
I am a planner as well. As much as I appreciate the meditative quality of stillness, most days I need one thing to chart the course of my day, a simple goal to give me a feeling of accomplishment. Maybe a list of independent activities and a clipboard would give your sweet planner a sense of order and a reassuring command over her days.
