rain

This morning the sky is cast in gray, the clouds pregnant with excuses to curl indoors. Stacks of books and board games, paint brushes and chocolate chip cookies promise to mark our hours between raindrops among friends. Nestled in my chair, warm coffee cooling beside me, my mind drifts to another rainy day not so long ago. My daughter’s hand in mine, her giggles bubbling up as we splashed in puddles.
Every once in a while it feels indulgent to get caught in the rain without a care in the world for the inconvenience. Some days rain is the perfect companion to sunshine, an open invitation to escape expectations for the possibility of something else.
I love rainy days when I don’t have too much to do. Today? I’ll think about you enjoying your day while I bustle around.
I’m certain there will be a load (or two) of laundry to keep me tethered to some semblance of responsibility.
Sunshine and rain, connected by the brief arc of a rainbow.
Currently sunshine is besting the threat of raindrops and we are caught in a bright in-between. I should send the children out on a scavenger hunt in search of a rainbow.
I liked this a lot: “…clouds pregnant with excuses…”
Thank you.
Wonderful piece of writing… Rain can be cathartic and healing.
Thank you. I think my appreciation comes from recognizing the span of nature’s grace.
I agree. I’m always in awe of Mother Nature. Her strength and wisdom…
