to my daughter
February 13, 2014 § 4 Comments
This week you found yourself in the middle of a mistake, one you could not hide from and wore with naked vulnerability. Self conscious you held your chin up and navigated your days with grace; you shared your worries with a friend, giving trust and demonstrating faith; you spoke up for other children even when it would have been easier to keep quiet and bask in the silence. You chased each day’s joy despite an uncomfortable companion and I am in awe of the quiet strength that informed your choices. Love you.

Very mature. I can see why you are proud.
Thank you. There are so many moments we, as parents, want to shield our children from; tendencies to guard against or protect. I was, indeed, very proud watching my little girl claim her discomfort with courage. I am not certain I was so very brave at nine.
Marie, I’ve read a few of your daughter-tagged posts and your letters are lovely. I’d love for you to check out my blog DearHolly and see what you think. x
Thank you for your kind words, Jess. I harbor a personal affinity for handwritten letters and found in your endeavor a lovely collection of creative counsel.
