scratch

An expected goodbye offered a moment of hope this morning. A new school year waits just around the corner and the change I have come to anticipate has created reassurance in place of anxious anticipation.
This morning I received a lovely letter of goodbye from my son’s school aide. After months of shared struggles and success, he is moving on to a new experience. Where previously I might have taken comfort in a familiar face, I am happily more at ease with the unknown. Uncertainty feels familiar, not knowing holds both promise and potential. A new opportunity to grow.
We are starting from scratch and in doing so we set aside bad habits for new goals. Old mistakes will linger only in our memories and previous accomplishments will become irrelevant as we look forward, setting new expectations. The blank space of endless potential and the unmarred newness of this moment invites colorful dreams, hope in new forms.
Glad you see it that way… I am on my last shooting trip and am very anxious to get back to work (teaching) still love it after 34yrs. I too start from scratch every Sept…. not easy after a whole year in molding minds… both mine and theirs 🙂
This year I was struggling with doubts that the kind soul who had bonded with my son was in some ways facilitating dependency rather than enabling greater independence; lending emotional support over addressing specific academic concerns. It is a unique predicament born of an extraordinary relationship between student and teacher.
Wishing you all the best as you begin a new year!
*I want to underscore here my gratitude for this individual’s ability to recognize the importance of and need for friendship in an academic setting. My concerns do not undermine this value.
