puppy love

It feels too recent that we tended to the emotions of an abrupt goodbye to our first family pet. Impossible that we could tread against the familiar landscape of our memories and love someone new.
The logical pieces of my brain have calculated the unavoidable messiness of sacrificing order while creating a new normal. Sleepless nights and inconvenient messes, hallmarks of a puppy’s home.
Emotionally, I can already feel the weight of my companion’s shadow and the eagerness of her untempered affection. It is a new beginning in an old love story, all for the love of a puppy.
I’m sorry for your loss. And a new puppy! My kids are pressing hard for a puppy, knowing that our dog is nearing the end of his life. They want a bridge. I’m not inclined to provide it, though I understand their motivation. Their father is adamant that we have no more pets.
Janice, “never” and “not” were precursors to “yes” and “why not.”
From your blog to Dad’s ears. I would love another dog, too. But not one that is impossible to housebreak, as the current one is.
Awwwwwwww☺️☺️☺️☺️
I can so relate…got a new puppy too. Her name is Chikita😊
Congratulations on your new puppy!
And it’s so difficult training it all over again! Especially with my new job
I got a rescue last year – best decision I ever made! He stole my heart!
Neither of ours were rescue dogs, but I respect and admire your decision to offer a very lucky soul a second chance at a forever home.
Pets are family members, no question. Sorry for the sense of loss that follows all of those happy memories x
Thanks, Andy. There were years between goodbye and hello, but today the days overlap as we shuffle the past and present between new memories and old.
A family friend just did the same after losing her faithful furry companion. It’s done her a world of good . . .
I think the abundance of love that accompanies a canine companion is a salve for so many heartaches. The eager enthusiasm of their care and the vulnerability in their trust is a wonderful model of generosity. Congratulations to your friend!
The loss of a pet is never easy. Yes, there will be valuable lessons learned as all work through the grief but still…
The new little one, I am sure, will be the cause of some upcoming posts. Looking forward to those!
The loss of our first pet was abrupt and a sad decision based on guarding our, then, young children from a dangerous situation. My trust was raw and my heart tender after such a complicated experience, but I am holding tightly to hope and happier memories as we welcome this new chapter.
